Volunteers are registered and approved by Sarasota County which includes a background check. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. If under 18, adult supervision is required and a parent or guardian must sign a release form. Volunteers are encouraged to report their time on the Sarasota County volunteer reporting system to be eligible for benefits provided by Sarasota County and Friends of Osprey Junction Trailhead. Benefits include service awards, free tee shirts, discounts on logo merchandise, volunteer recognition events, and worker’s compensation medical-only insurance.
— Work on the park grounds, install and maintain gardens, trim trees and plants, install new and rejuvenate existing plants, remove invasive and non-native plants, rake leaves, mow grass, clean walkways and patios, use manual and power landscape tools.
— Work on various facilities that are in the park, maintain and repair facilities and furnishings, build new and renovate existing facilities, use manual and power tools doing carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting work, assist with special projects.
— Work inside the Visitor Center and at special events on the park grounds, greet visitors, hand out brochures and materials, answer questions, promote upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and donation programs, assist County Parks Staff .
— Pedal a 21 speed two passenger pedicab on The Legacy Trail, provide information and history to passengers about Osprey Junction Trailhead, The Legacy Trail, and the surrounding area, conduct safety checks on the pedicab, participate in special events.
